“You can’t get there from here”. Workaround 3rd party app blocking for Exchange calendar

Symptom:

Recently our company Exchange mailbox applied a new security policy: “Unable to access mail/calendar from any third party apps out of MS official apps”. That includes iPhone native mail/Calendar apps too. Error “You can’t get there from here”.

Feeling inconvenient since I always check my work calendar from the Apple Watch and that only work well with the iOS native apps. So here I found the workaround.

Solution:

1. Access the calendar from web version outlook.

2. Select the desired calendar and click the 3 dots button, “Sharing and permissions”.

3. Type in your personal mail address e.g. Gmail. Then select permission “select “Can view all details”.

4. Now in the above entered personal mailbox you would received the below email. But here don’t click the “Accept and view calendar”. Instead, open the attachment.

5. Open the attachment with a text editor, you would find the ics url within the <ICalUrl> tag, as highlighted blue below.

Done! With that ics url you can subscribe form any your favorite calendar apps. e.g. Google Calendar, or the iOS native calendar which work best with you Apple Watch!
